I don’t think Audrey was even in the original script when they had Ted be just a snotty little kid who was so greedy he wanted a tree just so he could be the only one to have it. I wonder just what the heck convinced the studio to change it.
Really? I didn’t know that. I would have liked the snotty Ted plot line. I think it would have been an interesting take than him having a crush on Audrey. And then The Once-ler could teach him the consequences of him being greedy or whatever.
Although, that plot line would mean no Audrey, but I would be okay with that bc the romance wasn’t really necessary. It was kinda like they decided to put it in last minute, and it just felt out of place.
Also, I was talking about this with my friend, and she came up with like Ted starting off with a crush on Audrey, but at the end he matures a bit and him and Audrey end up as just good friends, because we need more movies with just guy and girl platonic relationships. According to media, girls and guys can’t just be friends without wanting to date or have sex with each other.
i got the feeling that they added audrey simply to appease audrey geisel (dr seuss’ widow) or maybe even as a thank you to her because from what i hear shes quite difficult to convince when it comes to getting rights to dr seuss’ work (likely due to him being opposed to projects that didnt involve him when he was alive and also the disaster that was the cat in the hat live action film.) like seriously its really hard to convince her to let you do an adaption of a dr seuss book so yeah my opinion was that she was added as a slight nod and thank you to audrey geisel
